Ministry of Tourism Urges All Tourism Business Owners to Strengthen Safety Measures

PHNOM PENH: The Ministry of Tourism has reminded the Capital and Provincial Departments of Tourism and all tourism business owners to continue implementing the Royal Government's safety measures in the aftermath of the re-emergence of Covid-19 in Cambodia.

In a circular issued on Friday, 1 July, the Ministry of Tourism has urged all business owners to continue adhering to the measures set by the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Tourism, to prevent the spread of Covid-19. This includes ensuring that all employees are vaccinated against Covid-19 with "both the basic and booster doses." All business owners are also urged to strengthen the quality of environmental-sanitation services and maintain appropriate prices for products and services.

The Ministry has instructed the Capital and Provincial Departments of Tourism to cooperate with the Capital and Provincial Administration and local authorities to review and strengthen the implementation of tourism safety rules and to further guide all business establishments and tourism services, and to require local business managers to notify the authorities of any suspected cases of Covid-19 among guests who have visited the establishment, while scanning the QR Code to trace Covid-19 cases.

The Ministry of Tourism warns of the shut down of any tourism businesses that fail to implement measures or do not perform safety conditions properly.

The letter reads, "The Department of Tourism of the Capital and Provinces must request the cooperation of local authorities to shut down business operations and continue to encourage the implementation of legal measures, especially the law on measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and other diseases that pose a serious danger."

This announcement comes just days after Cambodia re-discovered Covid-19 cases in the country.

On 28 June 28, Prime Minister Hun Sen announced the re-discovery of Covid-19 cases in the country, and urged people to take precautionary measures and get vaccinated to prevent the further spread of the disease.

The Chairperson of the Committee for Vaccination Against Covid-19, Dr. Or Vandine, has also urged all citizens who have a 3-month gap from their last Covid-19 vaccination to get vaccinated with the dose third, fourth or fifth dose.

She said people can go to either vaccination sites or health centers, and the vaccine promotes the strength of both the individual and the community's immunity, and helps to prevent the possibility of a new large-scale Covid-19 outbreak. Failure to take the booster dose will lower the body's immunity, especially when the gap between vaccines is too long.
